(National Institute of Information and Communications Technology,

Future Internet

A NICT (National Institute of Information and Communications)-sponsored conference, called “ the NICT’s New Vision” was held on November 9, 2011 at Tokyo Conference Center in Shinagawa, Tokyo. Following President Hideo Miyahara’s lecture “NICT’s New Vision,” I gave a keynote speech entitled “The New Generation Network Project: Its Promises and Challenges.” The New Generation Network (NWGN for short) aims at a revolutionary leap from the current Internet and its evolutionary extension known as the Next Generation Network (NGN for short). An effort similar to the NwGN is usually referred to as a Future Internet in the U.S. and Europe.

The article attached below is a summary daft prepared by the Public Relation Department of NICT, based on my keynote, which will be published in the January 2012 issue of NICT News. The slides and video can be found by clicking

Since I was given only 30 minute for my speech, I had to skip some background and details. If you read my full text that goes with the slides, you will be able to comprehend my talk, even if you are not familiar with the fundamental of the Internet.
